[virtual worlds & Education] Purposes of Comparative Field Notes

Increasingly educators are becoming keenly aware and curious about the affordances of various forms of digital technology for learning and teaching in and about art. Everything from social media, 3D printers, virtual worlds, and virtual reality, to the maker’s movement are significant to todays’ educators, especially art educators.

The purpose of COMPARATIVE FIELD NOTES

As I explore various types of virtual locations in Second Life, I take comparative notes and think critically when comparing two or more locations. The Second Life filed notes help educators and learners explore the possibilities of virtual worlds. By knowing the possibilities of virtual worlds, educators will be able to envision the virtual learning environment they would like to create in their classes.

Virtual worlds, such as Open Simulation, MineCraft and Second Life, introduce 3D modeling, texturing, and basic scripting, it is a medium that educators can use to deepen their understanding of technology and digital visual culture, and which can prepare them for adapting or envisioning the future of technology in education.
